Club Ride – Saturday 29th December

Looks like a fine but cold ride this week. Keeping it relatively short as we’re still in the early part of base training for most riders and also to suit those who’s events don’t necessitate rides longer than 3 hours. Those that wish can always add more mileage after the coffee stop.
Plan for Saturday is the usual 0850 meet and 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Out via Balmer Lawn and a loop around East Boldre, Sowley and back to Beulieu. Then North Road, Ipley Cross, Ashurst, Woodlands, Bartley, Nomansland, Fritham, Bolderwood and back to Brock. Coffee stop at Sett’s in Brockenhurst.
Winter pace, nice easy spin to burn off some of the Christmas excess.

Sunday Club Ride 30th December 2018

Time to work off a few of those excess pounds before piling them back on over new year.

This weeks ride leaves via Burley rd then turns towards Sway then Pitmore lane, Sway rd before meeting the A337 just north of Lymington. We cross the road after a short time up to Boldre, Pilley and then Norleywood. Then North to East Boldre, South to St Leonards before heading South once more towards Beaulieu. From here we take the Beaulieu rd back into Brockenhurst for the 50K route.

I'm away again this Sunday so if someone could download the route that would be great.

Forecast is cold bur fair.

Club Ride – Saturday 15th December

Unfortunately, the Saturday weather forecast is going to defeat us again. Tomorrows forecast is heavy rain and high winds to not conducive for a club ride.
So, plan B is to support Septugenarian Sunday and join the other ride. I’m sure that everybody will appreciate the extra horsepower on the front but please remember it will be Sunday pace not Saturday pace.

Sunday Club Ride - 16th December

This weeks Sunday ride courtesy of John Burridge

Hi everyone,, as you will know this Sunday's club ride is a bit different in that it's my 70th birthday 70 miler. So meet at Cafe Velo (2 Star Lane Ringwood) for a 9am getaway. Parking is free on Sundays in the High Street and there will hopefully be room at the end of the High Street in the square near the church. This is very close to Cafe Velo, just trundle up by the Star pub. Alternative parking should be available in 'The Close' off Mansfield Road or forest parking clocks are valid in the long stay car park. If anyone would like a shorter ride we will be passing through Brockenhurst at 10 and could meet at the junction of The Rise and Sway Road. If you like you could carry straight on at Ashurst and return to Brock. The route continues through Woodlands and Netley Marsh with a roadside coffee and cake stop as we go under the A31 provided by Pauline and her Daughter Kit with the aid of our camper van. They will also have a bike rack if anyone would like to be ferried back to Ringwood from there. We carry on through Landford, Hamptworth and Redlynch then fork right through Hale, Woodgreen, Breamore and Rockbourne returning to Ringwood via Alderholt. I've laid on bacon baps, cake, and drinks at Cafe Velo afterwards with veg and gluten free options so I hope as many as possible will come and enjoy the ride. Forecast keeps changing so let's hope for fine weather on the day. Here's the route on Strava https://www.strava.com/routes/15969171?fbclid=IwAR2dgvfGMsIXs8u75NgbsdRgBCztEUae_wto9zODiUDUNLk3YZWxHMBra-0

SUNDAY CLUB RIDE CHANGE 09/12/18

I have given the weather forecast every opportunity to improve but it just won't be agreeable. Unfortunately because 40+ MPH winds are forecast and there is standing water everywhere we will have to cancel the road ride and substitute that with an off road jolly.
Barry has furnished me with a 39K route which starts from Beechern Wood car park. This is the one leaving Brockenhurst on Rhinefield Road, right turn just as you get to the end of the village after The Coppice and opposite North Weirs.

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart

Someone will need to download this as I am sadly not the owner of an off-road bike, a shortcoming that I hope to fix at some point.

Good luck and enjoy.

Club Ride – Saturday 8th December - Off road again

Unfortunately, the weather forecast has taken a turn for the worse and is giving us high winds for Saturday morning. This makes a road ride in a close peloton potentially unsafe so apologies but no road ride again this Saturday.
Plan B will be an off-road ride. Pace will be to suit whoevers riding and the machinery they’re on.
Meet in the main car park in Brookley Road Brockenhurst (behind Sainsburys) at 0850 for an 0900 depart. Out via Sway Road and pick up the old railway towards Wootton Bridge. That will also enable those that come up from the south west to meet us en route. We’ll then pick up mainly marked trails and make a 60Km loop back to Brockenhurst and have a coffee stop at the end. Hopefully before the forecast rain comes in.

Club Ride – Saturday 10th November

Weather forecast for this week doesn’t look too good. The high winds should have passed by Saturday morning but looks like a day for waterproofs, mudguards and lights. So, plan to keep it shortish and relatively local this week so we can cut short if the weather is too inclement.
Meet at usual place in the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst at 0850 for a 0900 depart. Out via Balmer Lawn to Hatchet Pond. First loop around East Boldre, Sowley, Bucklers Hard. Second loop around Lepe. Then back to East Boldre, Norleywood, Pilley and coffee stop at Mabel’s at Shallowmead Nursery in Boldre Lane. Club Ride – Saturday 27th October

Weather forecast for Saturday is marginal with risk of a ground frost. For a group ride I’ll always err on the side of caution when one rider falling can result in a multiple accident so think it safest to opt for an off-road ride this week.
Suggest meet at the Standing Hat car park in Balmer Lawn, Brockenhurst at 0850 and depart at 9000. We can then spend some time on the trails between Brock, Beaulieu and Lyndhurst. Then is we’re happy with the roads linking up the trails head further afield and make it up as we go.
Mountain bikes, cross bikes and gravel bikes all welcome, pace will be set to suit who turns up and on what machinery.

Turbo Training 2018/2019

As per last few winters I’m putting on turbo training classes to help with quality training over the winter months to compliment base training and prepare riders for the time trial / race season. Sessions will start on Thursday 1st November and run through to the end of March. (No session 27thDecember). Training will be held at Brockenhurst Village Hall in Highwood Road (SO42 7RY). The sessions will be in the Craft Room and it will be easiest to park at the rear of the hall and use the back door to the Craft Room. Note that the car park has been re-surfaced and laid out so that should make life a lot easier this year. Doors open at 1930, warm up will start at 1945. The duration of the sessions will vary but will normally be around 75 -90 minutes including warm up and cool down. Please don’t arrive early as there’s another class finishing at 1900 so we want to make sure that they’re clear.
The sessions will be run along the lines of training within certain training zones to increase lactate threshold / functional threshold power. The result of this structured training should result in you being able to hold a higher effort level for longer come the race season.
The sessions are planned and delivered by a British Cycling Certified Level 3 coach (Barry Wootten).
The coach will recommend other sessions for riders to do to complement the Thursday sessions and distribute those to riders via Training Peaks software.
Please sign up for a Training Peaks account (if you haven’t already got one) https://home.trainingpeaks.com. The basic one will suffice unless you want the specific features of the chargeable version. Follow the following link to link your account with the coaches account: https://home.trainingpeaks.com/attachtocoach?sharedKey=2QQNI6DAVQGBM
If you've got a heart rate monitor please wear it, if not don't worry as advice will be given based on the Perceived Rate of Exertion scale which requires no equipment.
If you’re training with power the sessions will also be delivered in terms of power zones as well as heart rate zones.
Please remember that we are hiring the village hall and there are a few house rules we need to adhere by:
1.    No cleats on the floor.
2.    All riders to have a mat / carpet under their bike and turbo.
3.    All riders clear up their own sweat and mess!
4.    Please make sure your bikes are clean before bringing them into the hall.
Checklist of what to bring:
1.    Bike, make sure tyres are pumped up
2.    Turbo
3.    Mat / carpet
4.    Cycling shorts
5.    Skewer for turbo
6.    Shoes
7.    Drink
8.    Food for afterwards
9.    Change of clothing for afterwards
10.  Towels, additional small towel for when riding is useful
11.  Heart rate monitor / power meter
12.  Extension lead if your turbo requires mains
13.  Front wheel raiser
Cost of each session is £5

I keep seeing different weather forecasts for Saturday but have taken the safe option to postpone the IOW ride until next week and keep this weeks ride shortish and close to home so that we have flexibility if heavy rain or winds prove disruptive.

NFCC Sunday Club Ride 16/09/2018

Meet as usual in the car park on Brookley road in Brockenhurst at 8.50 for a 9.00 A.M start.

This week, in an attempt to avoid the wiggle sportive, we will reverse one of our regular routes as below:

Head west along the Beaulieu rd to Hatchett pond, from here past Beaulieu on Hatchett Lane until we turn right onto North Lane. Continue past Ipley Cross to Deerleap Lane and up to Colbury. Go down the hill through Ashurst before passing through woodlands, Bartley to the A337. Follow the apparently nameless rd to Minstead and then Emery Down. From here we track up Bolderwood west side and back down to the A35. Cross the A35 before heading back into Brock on the Rhinefield Rd. Coffee in one of Brockenhurst's numerous cafe's.

Phil H is away this weekend and for the following two weeks so if any of the clubs members who are experienced in group riding would like to step into the breach then that would be appreciated.

Route can be downloaded below.

Club Ride – Saturday 15th September

As there is a Wiggle ride this weekend we’ll do our best to keep out of their way. So, plan for Saturday is as follows:
Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Out via Balmer Lawn, Hatchet Pond, Beaulieu, Ipley Cross, Ashurst, Woodlands, Bartley, Copythorne, Landford, Redlynch, Woodgreen, Godshill, Stuckton and onto Hockey’s for a coffee stop after around 60Km.
Then back via Red Shoot, Bolderwood and return to Brock for just over 80Km. Then the mileage monsters can hatch plans for a second loop. The Wiggle rides are not using Lepe / Calshot areas so that looks favourite.
