Club Ride – Monday 28th December – CANCELLED

Unfortunately the weather forecast for Monday gives us a risk of ice and temperatures that might not clear it so regretfully the ride planned for Monday will not go ahead.

Club Ride – Saturday 19th December – CHANGE OF PLAN – OFF ROAD

The weather gods have not been kind and with high winds forecast for Saturday it is not conducive for road peloton riding. Therefore, we will use our contingency plan for an off road ride. Route is suitable for cross / gravel / MTB bikes so all welcome. Route is 58Km and detailed here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1372805?units=km

I’ve plotted routes through the woods between Balmer Lawn and Beaulieu to the best of my ability with the map I’ve got. If these are not the marked cycle paths please use common sense if you are leading and make the necessary diversion to keep to the paths. We should have enough local knowledge between us to navigate through OK

Ride is planned to be a non-stop ride with no coffee stop. Options for coffee in Brockenhurst at the end of the ride for those that wish.

Keeping to current Covid protocols for club rides, please meet at the main car park in Brookley Road at 0850 for a 0900 depart. Remember to keep to the rule of 6 in the car park and not just automatically join the group that’s already there.

Sunday Club Ride, 20th December 2020

Meet as usual in Brookley Rd Car Park 8.50 for a 9.00A.M start.

This weeks route is:
Brock/Bolderwood/Redshute/Poulner/Braggers/Burley/Brock 50K
Downloadable here 50.1 km Road Cycling Route on Strava

Welcome back to our over-70's.
We still need to observe the Covid-protocol's of course, Groups of 6 or fewer, sadly no guest riders or joining the group mid-ride etc.

If you plan to join the coffee stop at the end of the ride then a mask and hand gel are a good idea as is an extra layer!.

Forecast for Sunday is bearable so hope to see a good turnout. Anyone sporting Santa-suits or reindeer helmet additions will be banned.

Club Ride – Saturday 11th December

Congratulations to those that braved the conditions for the first post lockdown 2 club ride last week. I’m pleased to say that the forecast for Saturday is a little more clement this week. This Saturday we’ll be keeping to a similar length and pace with an 80Km loop via Whitsbury. No mid ride coffee stop, but options at the end of the ride in Brockenhurst for coffee or planning extra miles for those that wish.

Route at https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1366657?units=km

No change in the Covid conditions we’re operating on in this area this week, so previous conditions still apply.

So please be at the start at 0850 for an 0900 depart and form into group of 6 or fewer.

Rides are still restricted to members only and those that are not classified as clinically vulnerable.

Clinically Vulnerable Riders

I hate having to write this given the fitness of our 70 year old plus members, but after some due diligence of British Cycling and government guidelines we will not be able to accommodate riders who fall into the category of “clinically vulnerable” on club rides until further notice. The broad brush approach of the government policy dictates that all over 70’s are automatically in this category despite their individual health.

From British Cycling, their website states that any rider wilfully contravenes the government advice, which at present states that those designated “clinically vulnerable” can only exercise alone or within their bubble, will invalidate their liability insurance which is an unacceptable position for a club ride.

The paragraph below is from the BC website:

As a British Cycling member, what does this mean for my third-party liability insurance?

British Cycling’s third-party liability insurance and legal support and advice member benefits remain in place for all Commute, Ride, Race Silver and Race Gold members.

Those riding in groups which comply with Government guidelines (see above) will be covered, but please note that insurance cover provided to members and Clubs will be invalid if they are wilfully contravening Government advice – ie. riding in large groups of more than six – or participating in activities which are currently suspended.

Apologies to all those affected, and I sincerely hope that things change for the better and that this can be reversed asap.

Club Ride – Saturday 5th December – Change of start time

Apologies for the late notice. Been checking various weather forecasts for Saturday and weather.com is giving us a slight risk of ice on untreated roads until 1000. Therefore, in the interests of group safety the start time will be 1100 not 0900. So please be at the start point for 1050 not 0850 this week.

Club Ride – Sunday 6th December

With the recent changes to the guidelines for the area we’re able to re-start group rides this week. As before the latest lockdown rides will be split into pelotons of 6 or fewer riders. We are maintaining the same tracing policy so that means that rides will remain for members only, so please no visitors, guests or non-members until further notice. Usual meet point in the main car park in Brookley Road Brockenhurst. Please be at the start for 0850 for a 0900 depart. Please ensure that you comply with the “rule of 6” at the start and do not inadvertently merge into a larger group.

This weeks route is 54K Rhinefield/Bolderwood up and down/Minstead/Woodlands/Ashurst/Ipley Cross/Hatchett and then back to Brock, hopefully to the Sett for Vittles.
Sunday pace will continue to be approximately 25KPH depending upon the ability of the group.
Forecast is to be very cold so worth bringing an extra layer or 5 and keep half an eye on the forecast is case there is a risk of ice.
Hope to see a good turnout despite the chill.

Club Ride – Saturday 5th December

With the recent changes to the guidelines for the area we’re able to re-start group rides this week. As before the latest lockdown rides will be split into pelotons of 6 or fewer riders. We are maintaining the same tracing policy so that means that rides will remain for members only, so please no visitors, guests or non-members until further notice. Usual meet point in the main car park in Brookley Road Brockenhurst. Please be at the start for 0850 for a 0900 depart. Please ensure that you comply with the “rule of 6” at the start and do not inadvertently merge into a larger group.

The ride will be a 3 hour 80K route around the south east of the region with a couple of options to cut short if you wish. If you do please advise the ride leader or another member of the group. Give the relatively short ride and the temperature there will be no mid ride coffee stop but there will be opportunities to stop at the end in Brockenhurst for those that wish, and indeed opportunities for those that wish to add some extra mileage at the end.

Route at https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1358492?units=km

As usual this time of year the pace will drop a little given the phasing of riders training programmes and the equipment being used. If you were planning to join the Saturday rides this is a good opportunity to start.

Hope to see a good turnout despite the slightly miserable weather forecast.
