Club Ride Saturday 30th April 2022

As it’s a bank holiday weekend and a decent weather forecast expecting the forest to be busier than usual so this week the club ride will head north out of the forest and hopefully have less traffic to share the roads with.

Meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual.

Route is 111Km and can be found at:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1888939?units=km

Coffee stop is later than usual at 84Km so make sure you’ve got enough food to get there as it will be 1200 before we get to The Coffee Pot at Hyde.

Thursday Night Chain Gang – 28th April

This week we’ll use the flat course that we used couple of weeks back between Roundhill campsite and Hatchet Pond on the B3055. Appreciate feedback from riders as to whether this course is preferred or the usual Burley loop or whether alternating it is more interesting.

Meet at the campsite road at 1830 and plan for 3 out and back legs to Hatchet Pond.

If numbers are high and speed increases during the legs expect the ride to fragment into two or more smaller groups as we go on. Don’t worry if it happens to you it is normal for the chain gang.

Hope to see another good turnout

PS, next week and for May the start time will move to 1845

Club Ride Saturday 23rd April 2022

After last weeks excursion out of the forest this week the club ride will be a 121Km loop around the south of the forest. Meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual and we’ll split into as many pelotons as necessary to be safe and minimise impact on other road users.

As the weather forecast is good plan to stop at the Community Shop in Minstead for coffee where can use the village green outside the shop.

Club Ride Saturday 16th April 2022

Good weather forecast for the weekend and chance for a longer club ride and easy to make up to a century or more with home to Brock and back. Meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual. Expecting the forest to be very busy on Saturday so taking the ride out of the area. Route is 142Km to Shaftsbury and back. Few options for coffee stops, but probably either the community café in Broad Chalke or the Rising Sun in Donhead on the out leg and then a second stop at Café Velo on the way back.

Thursday Night Chain Gang 14th April

Latest news on the roadworks on the A35 / Holmsley means that we will need another change of plan for Chain Gang this week.

The A35 is due to open this week so that route is not available. The reports are that Station Road will have traffic lights for a while so probably best to avoid that until we see how that’s working out.

So, plan for this week and possibly the next few is to use an out and back course between Roundhill campsite and Hatchet Pond along the B3055. This is a nice wide road with good visibility and should suit though and off drills. The only concession we will need to make is that each leg will be just under 5Km and will result in a stop and turn around. We should be able to make 3 sets of this course in our usual time slot.

Course here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1870714?units=km

So, plan to meet at the slip road for Roundhill campsite at 1830 this week.

Sunday Club Ride. 10th April 2022

Meet as usual in Brookley Rd Car park, Brockenhurst at 8.50 for a 9.00A.M start
Quick reminder to Sunday (and Saturday) regulars to renew their memberships if they haven't already. Also to remind folks that they should also be a member of either British Cycling, CTC or British Tri.
Guest riders and those wishing to 'try before you buy' are always very welcome but we operate a 'don't take the piss' rule. If you are going to ride regularly or even fairly regularly on the endurance rides then you need to be a club member.
This weeks route downloadable here. https://www.strava.com/routes/2919184782081270850
Finish at the Setley Ridge cafe.
Forecast a little chilly but pleasant so I hope to see another great turnout.

Club Ride Saturday 9th April 2022

Meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual. Route is within the forest this week with a coffee stop planned for The Potting Shed in Hyde. Planned distance is 105Km and for those wanted extra we can plan this at the coffee stop. Expect local roads to be busy as it’s a decent forecast and Easter holiday. We have a number of regular riders on holiday / racing this week and they are also some of our strongest riders who do big turns on the front, so I’ll be looking for others to come forward and put their nose into the wind.

Route at:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1867768?units=km

As mentioned in Phil H’s note on the Sunday ride, please check that you have renewed your membership before riding and have the required third-party insurance in place. Visitors from other clubs are welcome and new / prospective members can join a couple of rides before deciding whether to join the club.

Thursday Night Chain Gang – Temporary Course

Due to the A35 / Holmsley roadworks we won’t be able to run our usual chain gang course for the time being. I’ve been out and checked the route and whilst the A35 is blocked we will use the following route:

1. Meet at St Saviours Church, Wilverley Road, Brockenhurst for an 1830 start. This will change to 1845 in May and 1900 in June.

2. Leg 1 Rhinefield Road to the A35. We’ll split into small groups for this leg as there is more traffic than usual on this road and a peloton if difficult to pass on parts of this road.

3. Neutralised zone for 0.5Km along the A35 until we pass Lyndhurst Road.

4. Leg 2, 5Km stretch of the A35 to the point at where the road is blocked.

5. Leg 3, 5Km return along the A35

6. Neutralised zone for 0.5Km along the A35 until we turn into Rhinefield Road.

7. Finish at junction with Meerut Road, Brockenhurst

Total distance will be the same as our usual route around Burley If anybody sees any changes that mean the A35 is re-opening to through traffic please let me know. As soon as that happens, I will post a new course. First few weeks of chain gang will be a little slower than usual whilst we all get used to the discipline again and to help any new riders assimilate to our way of riding.
