Sunday Club Ride 30th April 23

Meet as usual in Brookley Rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00A.M start.
This weeks route takes us out East for the Ipley Cross and East Dean loops before returning to Brock and then climbing church hill to be rewarded at The Setley ridge cafe where the ride ends.
Forecast is pretty nice so with the return of the training-campers + quite a few hollidaymakers I hope to see a great turnout.

Club Ride Saturday 29th April 2023

Bank Holiday weekend and a good weather forecast so plan this week will be to try and avoid the traffic as much as possible and head north out of the forest.

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

120Km loop to the east and then north to take in Dean Hill. Followed by another hilly section around Wood Green, Godshill and then the option for Blissford Hill or the bale out option around Abbotswell. Then at 80Km coffee at The Potting Shed followed by a 40Km meander back to Brock around the backroads of Bransgore.

Look forward to seeing the return of the Girona crew apart from thise that have carried onto the Majorca end of the tour. Good luck to those doing the 312 this weekend.

Club Ride Saturday 22nd April 2023

Weather forecast for this week is slightly iffy but thankfully a lot better than what we endured in March, so plan to keep the route local and options open this week.

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Based on the forecast at time of writing this week’s route is shorter than it has been of late to hopefully give those that wish a chance of avoiding the showers. Total distance 93Km with a planned coffee stop at Steff’s in Beaulieu at 58Km. Decide at the coffee stop if we wish to plot an extra loop. Route also gives plenty of options to cut short should the weather be worse than the forecast.

Hope to see another strong turnout even without a lot of the regulars enjoying the last of the sun in Girona.

Sunday Club Ride 16th April 2023

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 A.M start.

As there is a cycling event on this weekend which will be well worth avoiding, this weeks ride takes us anti clockwise on an otherwise familiar route.
Ride to finish at The Terrace (They are missing us) unless there is a mutiny in my absence in which case Setley Ridge.
Forecast is looking pretty nice but I will be away at the clubs training camp in Girona. Hope to hear of another excellent turnout.

Club Ride Saturday 15th April 2023

Looks like a good day for a longish ride this Saturday so planning a 133Km jaunt north of the forest to Longstock where we will stop for mid ride coffee at the Waitrose Farm Shop. Please bring a café lock if you have one as we do have to leave the bikes in the car park away from the shop.

There are two days of a sold out UK Cycling Events sportive in the forest this weekend so the plan is to keep out of their way as much as possible. The route is planned against their direction of travel and on different roads as much as possible.

Route is here and hopefully without last week’s poor mapping by yours truly:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2214535?units=km

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual. Likely to be a smaller group as usual as a large contingent of regular Saturday riders will be en route to Girona for the club training camp so likely to be a single group with a wider range of strengths so strong riders please volunteer for long stints on the front this week please.

Club Ride Saturday 8th April 2023

At last a dry Saturday so expect a return from the NFCC hydophobes! Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst where we will split the group into smaller pelotons as appropriate. This is a must when we head west from Coombe Biussett so we may split the group further there as usual. As it’s a Bank Holiday and likely to be very busy in the forest we’ll take the route north and head up to the Chalke Valley.

Route at

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2207801?units=km

Total distance 116Km

Coffee stop planned at halfway at the ever popular community café in Broad Chalke which will precede a chain breaking climb up to Sixpenny Handley followed by a descent where this time we hope that Smithy doesn’t end up in the hedge again!

Back to the forest and the option to add another loop for those that think a century ride is the order of the day.

Club Ride Friday 7th April 2023 - Gravel

Bonus ride this week as it’s a bank holiday weekend. Friday will be a 65Km gravel ride and hopefully missing the worst of the Good Friday traffic on the roads

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst as usual. Being a mainly off-road ride it will be one group and paced to suit the slowest riders. Being the considerate cyclists I know you are remember to ride defensively and give priority to pedestrians on the gravel paths as I’m sure they will also be busy on Friday especially along the old railway.

Ride will only use the marked cycle paths and roads and if I’ve plotted the route incorrectly please keep to the marked cycle paths and re-join the planned route when possible. Planned route is here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2206810?units=km

Plan will be 37Km and stop for coffee at the Community Shop in Minstead.

Then another 28Km back to Brock or maybe a bit longer if Phil G takes control and adds some extras.
