Club Ride – 27th April 2024

ADVANCE NOTICE - 27th April - In the absence of Barry and most people called Phill, it is proposed to run a slightly different NFCC Saturday club ride. Meeting at Moyles Court (if you don’t want to ride over, plenty of parking by the ford or the side road by the school), the plan is to ride a Milton Abbas loop, via Blandford and looping back via Wimborne. It’s a beautiful route, I rode it recently and the roads are in reasonable shape. Meet 09.10am at Moyles Court for an 09.20 start. Coffee stop planned at “The View” coffee shop. And of course, a second coffee shop is always an option. Route is approx. 122km, first coffee stop at about 56km. Route at https://www.strava.com/routes/3215249589887431136 or https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2588004?units=km

Sunday Club Ride 21st April

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.

Finish as usual at Setley Ridge cafe.
Weather looks set fair.
I am away at the clubs training camp in Italy for the next two Sundays. If we have another high turnout please ensure that there is at least one group running at a slower pace and that it remains a strictly No-Drop group. Play nice and see you in a few weeks.
Phil H

Club Ride – 20h April 2024

A number of regular Saturday riders will be on the training camp this week so expecting a smaller turnout than usual. Usual format though, meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Planned route is 127KM and is a clockwise circle around the forest.

Route can be downloaded from here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2587479?units=km

Coffee stop scheduled for the ever popular Potting Shed in Hyde at the halfway point.

Barry

Wednesday 10 April 2024

Sunday Club Ride 14th April 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.
With the New Forest classic event on this weekend our route avoids what are likely to be the busiest and most congested roads (and hopefully the angry and dangerous drivers). Although it does pass through Lyndhurst so...!
Finish at Setley ridge as per.
Forecast is good so I hope to see a great turnout.
p.s Still time to get tickets for Saturday nights club 90th anniversary dinner. You know you want to.

Club Ride – 13th April 2024

As there is a major sportive in the forest this weekend, plan this Saturday is to take the club ride out of the forest and out of the way of that ride. Route has been planned to keep us away from that as much as possible. Scheduled route is a 129KM ride to the north and can be found here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2576225?units=km

Coffee stop planned halfway at Boughton Community Shop.

Usual meet, 0850 for 0900 depart from main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Forecast good and a lot less challenging than last week.

Barry

Friday 5 April 2024

Club Ride – 6th April 2024

The forecast for very high winds has abated so we can plan a regular club ride this Saturday. It will still be windy and challenging so please take extra care keeping the pelotons tight and watching out for sudden crosswinds.

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Planned route is 118Km and can be found here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2573706?units=km

The route has been kept close to home and with multiple loops so we can make changes should conditions dictate.

Coffee stop planned halfway at Steff’s in Beaulieu. With a 15-16C forecast it might even be pleasant sitting in the garden at the café for the first time on a long time.

Barry

Thursday 4 April 2024

Club Ride – 6th April 2024

Plan for this week’s club ride deferred until Friday morning due to forecast of high winds. If the forecast abates then I’ll plan a normal club ride, if not then either a shorter non-stop ride that will be scheduled to give everyone time to get home before the 40MPH+ winds or a gravel ride. Plan will be posted by 1100 Friday.

Barry

Wednesday 27 March 2024

Club Ride – 30th March 2024

Bank Holiday weekend and a half decent forecast so plan to take the club ride out of the forest and make it the first long ride of the year. Planned route is 157Km and moderately lumpy. Couple of optional shortcuts to make a shorter ride by heading south after Broad Chalke or taking the Red Shoot way home for anyone wanting a shorter ride or having domestic duties.

Usual meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Planned route can be found here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2561814?units=km

Given the extra length two planned coffee stops. First one at 58Km at the ever popular Broad Chalke community café. Then at 92Km a new stop for the club ride but one that’s used by many of the midweek skivers, Chettle Stores. At 115Km there is the Coop at Alderholt for any top ups required.

Hope that works for everybody.

Barry

Sunday club ride 31st March 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park in Brockenhurst at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.

As it's easter weekend I have selected a route that uses some of the quieter roads in the south-East of the forest.
At the time of writing the forecast for the morning looks quite reasonable. I have arranged another tailwind finish. Vittles to be consumed at Setley ridge cafe as usual.
Annoyingly, after last weeks enforced lay-off I will be absent again this Sunday (unless I get a pass from visiting friends) but hope to hear of another great turnout and hopefully no crashes this week.
Phil H

Friday 22 March 2024

Sunday club ride 24th March 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00A.M start.
Finish at Setley ridge cafe for bulk-purchase coffees and cake multi-packs.
Forecast is o.k at the time of writing and I have organised a tailwind finish.
I made the mistake recently of feeling fit and well so am rightly being punished by the health gods, who have given me a bug. Hope to make it but if not have a great ride and play nice.
Phil H

Wednesday 20 March 2024

Club Ride – 23rd March 2024

After breaking open the factor 15 last week it looks like another week of high winds and on / off showers this week. With that in mind this week’s club ride is being kept local with a couple of loops that can be taken out if the weather turns out worse than forecast. Planned route is 108Km and a lot less lumpy than last week.  Route can be found here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2556353?units=km

There will be parts of the route that have suffered with the recent winter weather so some extra care will be required especially around Bockhampton, Bramshaw and Stuckton.

Coffee stop planned at around 54Km at The Potting Shed at Hyde. Remember to pack a lock if you have one as we are requested to leave bikes in the car park.

Barry

Friday 15 March 2024

Sunday club ride 17th March 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 A.M start.
Quick reminder to membership-renewal refuseniks to pay up.
This weeks route downloadable here: https://www.strava.com/routes/3138420027087187330
Finish at Setley ridge cafe for vittles.
Forecast looks a little damp and I couldn't organise the traditional tailwind finish this week (soz). Despite that I hope to see another great turnout.

Wednesday 13 March 2024

Club Ride – 16th March 2024

After the recent travails of the club rides dealing with wind / rain / flooding etc, this Saturday we look set for something a little more clement. So, we can look forward to being re-acquainted to some of the less Belgian like members who have been absent of late. We may be joined by some of those who did the night ride last week, so I am planning to have the roads checked in advance to reduce the instances of being hit by bollards travelling in the opposite direction, jaywalking badgers and feisty owls.

Better forecast also gives us the chance to go a little further afield so plan this week is to head north out of the forest for a change.

Route is 116Km and has a fair bit of climbing, 1148M, so will be a challenge.

Planned coffee stop at the Community Shop in Broughton at 67Km. Richard Parker has kindly been to check it out (he has found his calling with this role) and advise / warn them what an NFCC visitation is like so I will call them in advance to ensure they have enough cake.

Route can be found here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2548975?units=km

At present there is a slight risk of light drizzle after 1300 on the BBC forecast. Can I please ask riders to bring large umbrellas so we can form a canopy over club hydrophobe Graham F and keep him dry.

Roads are drying out, relatively, so mudguards optional for those that wish to dust off their summer bikes.

Thanks in advance

Barry

Wednesday 6 March 2024

Sunday Club Ride 10th March 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50a.m for a 9.00A.M start.
This week's route takes us out on the popular route to the Wild East of the forest. With an unusual Easterly wind we should enjoy a nice cruise back to the coffee shop at Setley Ridge.
Forecast is a little meh but hope to see another record breaking turnout.
On another note, if you haven't done so yet there's still time to book your place at the clubs 90th anniversary dinner and awards do on 13th of April at the South Lawn Hotel. Tickets are just £20 (subsidised by the club). Life-partners and other halfs welcome to join the fun. Support the club whilst getting fed, what's not to like?

Club Ride – 9th March 2024

Another Saturday and another iffy weather forecast. Some showers and brisk winds forecast. But hopefully those that brave it will be treated to conditions better than forecast as we enjoyed the last two weeks.

Planned route is a relatively flat 105Km meander around the forest. As usual for these types of days route is made of many loops so we can change it if conditions deteriorate. Route can be found at:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2541488?units=km

Planned coffee stop at 54Km at Steff’s in Beaulieu. The outside umbrellas there might be appreciated.

Barry

Wednesday 28 February 2024

Club Ride – 2nd March 2024

Another cold and wet forecast this Saturday so again club ride has been planned with a bit of flexibility in mind if we decide or need to cut a couple of corners. Schedule route is 107Km and can be downloaded from here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2534117?units=km

Usual meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Planned coffee stop at The Potting Shed at the 57Km mark,

Hopefully it will be like last week and be better than the forecast. But on the positive side if it is cold and wet all day it will show Phill B and Phil H what they’ve been missing whilst following the sun so enjoy the schadenfreude as they suffer in the cold and the wet!

Club Ride – 24th February 2024

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Expecting a lot of water on the roads so route may be subject to changes if conditions dictate. I’ve kept the route a bit shorter and close to home as its forecast for rain all day so we can keep our options open. We can always add a bit if it turns out better than the forecast.

Planned route is 102Km and can be downloaded here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2527722?units=km

New coffee stop this week. Gong to try the café at Bucklers Hard. This will be at the 53Km mark. Plenty of room for the bikes there and should be room inside.

Mudguards please to protect fellow riders and the café seats.

Hope the weather is better than the forecast.

Barry

Wednesday 14 February 2024

Club Ride – 17th February 2024

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Roads will still be filthy after recent weather so mudguards please to show some respect for your fellow riders.

After last week’s complaints about the route being a little damp from some of the club’s lightweights, this week’s route has been carefully plotted to avoid hazards. It has been created with due deference to tide tables as requested, NASA have confirmed that we are unlikely to be hit by meteorites or falling space debris and the Met Office have ruled out the possibility of avalanches so hopefully that will appease those that might have got their tootsies wet last week.

Route can be found at:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2519014?units=km

Coffee stop planned for The Potting shed at the 64 Km mark, so that should be about 1120 for group 1 and 1130 for group 2.

Full route is just shy of 110Km but is quite lumpy.

Barry

Sunday Club Ride 18th February 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley Rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 A.M start.
Quick reminder, if you haven't already done so to renew your membership for 2024.
As I am away sunning myself this week (and next) I am taking the opportunity to use my least favourite of our regular courses. The route takes us over some of the worst roads that the New Forest has to offer. If that's not enough to tempt you out then the current forecast of heavy rain should do it.
Finish as usual to feast in Setley Ridge cafe.
Have fun and play nice.
Phil H

Saturday 10 February 2024

Sunday Club Ride 11th Feb 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.
Finish the ride at Setley ridege cafe as per..
Forecast looks o.k and as usual, when I can, I have arranged for a tailwind finish (if a rather brutal headwind start).
Let's see if we can top last week's stella turnout.
Phil H

Thursday 8 February 2024

Club Ride – 10th February 2024

With a light rain forecast this week the plan for the club ride is to make it a little shorter and keep it local and give options to cut short or divert to a coffee shop if it’s worse than expected.

Planned route is 97Km largely around the south east of the forest.

Route can be found here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2512730?units=km

Planned coffee stop at the halfway mark at Steff’s in Beaulieu where the outside umbrellas might come in handy.

Club Ride – 3rd February 2024

With a decent forecast it gives us the opportunity to venture further afield for a change. So, this week’s club ride takes us out of the forecast to one of our frequently used summer routes to Broad Chalke.

Route is 113Km and can be found here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2504920?units=km

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst.

Coffee stop at 55Km at the Community Café in Broad Chalke.

Sunday Club Ride 28th Jan 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00A.M start.
Forecast is pretty good and as always I have arranged a tailwind finish to Setley ridge cafe.
Little reminder to renew your memberships.
Assuming I recover from the latest bout of man-flu I look forward to seeing you there.
Phil H

Club Ride – 27th January 2024

Woohoo, after what seems like an age a club ride planned without a weather warning for ice / wind / rain etc. So, plan this week is for a lumpy 110Km route around the forest. Coffee stop planned at 57Km at The Potting Shed in Hyde.

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Please make every to get to the start in good time, it is most unhelpful when we try and sort out groups when riders turn up at 0859 and expect everything to revolve around them.

Route at https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2497810?units=km

Expect the roads to be rough after the recent weather so extras care required as there will be new potholes and road deformation to watch out for.

Hope to see a good turn out and a return of some of our fair-weather colleagues who can expect no end of abuse from those who have been braving the elements over the last few weeks.

Friday 19 January 2024

Sunday Club Ride (maybe) 21st January

Current forecast for Sunday is for strong winds which would make it unsuitable for group road riding so watch this space for possible cancellation or change to gravel ride.
But, all being well:
Meet as usual in Brookley rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.
Finish with a potentially massive tailwind and vittles at the Setley ridge cafe as per..
I will make a call on the weather on Friday evening so that folk can plan ahead.
Phil H

Club Ride – 20th January – CANCELLED

Sorry for the late call. With 6C forecast I was confident that a club road was viable. However, there is ice that hasn’t thawed and it’s already icy in Brockenhurst. Therefore I am not confident that everywhere will have thawed so with great reluctance this week’s ride is cancelled.

Barry

Wednesday 17 January 2024

Club Ride – 20th January 2024

Another very cold day for this week’s club ride so plan for a steady 105KM trip round the forest as we gradually increase the distance over the winter months. Have made the route so we can cut short on the second loop around Burley should it be too inclement. After the last two weeks of coffee stop mutineers, I have abandoned any thoughts of a non-stop ride and plan to stop at Steff’s Kitchen at around 61KM where hopefully there will be space below the patio heaters.

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Please make every to get to the start in good time, it is most unhelpful when we try and sort out groups when riders turn up at 0859 and expect everything to revolve around them.

Planned route is here:

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2491068?units=km

The weather forecast has some high winds forecast for Sunday so please keep watching the club’s postings for any last-minute change of plans should the weather forecast deteriorate.

The temperatures forecast and the dry weather mitigate the risk of ice but if anybody sees any local conditions that make a ride unwise, please let me know.

Sunday Club Ride 14th January 2024

Meet as usual in Brookley Rd car park at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.

Looks like being another cold one but blessedly dry and wind-free.
This week's route downloadable here: https://www.strava.com/routes/2919184782081270850
Finish at Setley ridge for Coffee and a bit of what you fancy.
Look forward to another great turnout.
Phil H

Thursday 11 January 2024

Club Ride – 13th January 2024

Another very cold day for this week’s club ride so plan for a steady 97Km loop of the forest. Planning a non-stop ride to avoid riders getting cold but there is an option to grab a coffee and a spot under the heaters at Steff’s in Beaulieu at around the 3-hour mark if there are more coffee stop mutineers this week. Otherwise, coffee in Brock for those that plan on adding more mileage.

Usual meet at 0850 for a 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Expect the roads to be in a rough state from the recent weather so extra care looking out for new potholes, debris etc required.

Route can be downloaded from here:

Sunday Club Ride 7th January 2024

With the seasons festivities cracked and wastebands groaning it's time to get back out there.
Meet asual in Brookley rd car park, Brockenhurst at 8.50 for a 9.00 a.m start.
Weather forecast is blumming cold but otherwise fair. This weeks route is planned with the unusual northerly wind allowing us to coast homewards from the turning point onwards.
Finish as per usual at Setley ridge cafe for vittles of your choice.
Hope to see a great turnout.
Phil H

Club Ride – 6th January 2024

Forecast for a cold and dry day for this week’s club ride. As is usual for January rides will be a bit shorter and a bit steadier to get everyone back into the swing.

Meet at 0850 for an 0900 depart from the main car park in Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. Roads will still be filthy so mudguards please to show some respect for your fellow riders.

Planned route is a non-stop 81Km ride to the north of the forest (about 3 hours). As it’s going to be cold not planning to stop and just keep the pace steady to keep everyone warm. Optional coffee stop at ride end in Brock where those that want a longer ride can plan another loop.
